Hi! I am Sarah

The Travel Bug

Born and raised in Djibouti, my first international trip was at the age of five, when I flew to Sana’a, Yemen, to visit extended family. However, my true love for travel was kindled during a two-week family trip to Dubai in the summer of 2010.

It was my first visit to the UAE and the first time my entire family traveled together. I couldn’t contain my excitement. That trip was nothing short of magical. I remember feeling alive, mesmerized, and deeply joyful—as if I had found a calling. Discovering the world suddenly felt like my purpose, a new chapter waiting to be written.

This life-changing trip to Dubai cemented a passion for travel that only grew with time. As a student, I worked part-time for two years, saving every penny to fund my journeys. That hard-earned money allowed me to take a girls’ trip to Morocco, volunteer for a month in Fiji, visit friends and family across Europe.

Fluent in six languages,... I developed an innate aility to connect with people from all corner of the world.

A Djiboutian Nomad's Story

Growing up in Djibouti, a country rich in cultural diversity, shaped me into a traveler with a unique perspective. Fluent in six languages, raised within Arabic traditions, and surrounded by a close-knit Somali community, I developed an innate ability to connect with people from all corners of the world. These traits have enabled me to build friendships and forge connections wherever my journeys take me.

I’ve jumped out of a plane, traveled solo, volunteered in Fiji, and embarked on countless adventures. I never miss the chance to book that next flight, even if it means going alone—and I hope my story inspires you to chase your own adventures too.

One recurring theme during my travels has been people’s unfamiliarity with my home country, Djibouti. One of my favorite moments on any trip is when someone asks where I’m from. Without fail, my answer sparks genuine curiosity and delightful conversations. Many people tell me I’m the first Djiboutian they’ve ever met, and for me, there’s no greater joy than introducing my country to the world.

This sense of pride and connection inspired the name of my travel blog: “Djiboutian Nomad.”It’s a reflection of my journey as a global explorer and my mission to share Djibouti’s story with everyone I meet.
